Why have a National Framework?

Baseball New Zealand’s National Participation Framework is a cornerstone of the sport’s growth and sustainability across the country. It provides a clear, consistent, and inclusive pathway for players, coaches, officials, and communities to engage with baseball, from their very first experience through to high-performance opportunities.

At its core, this framework ensures that every young New Zealander, regardless of background, location, or ability, has access to a quality baseball experience. It supports clubs and regions by providing structured development stages, age-appropriate coaching guidelines, and aligned competitions that focus on fun, safety, and skill development.

This national consistency means parents can trust that their children will receive a positive and progressive experience wherever they play. It also enables talented players to be identified early and supported through regional and national programmes, helping them reach their full potential, whether their goal is personal growth, college scholarships, or professional opportunities abroad.

For coaches, volunteers, and administrators, the Framework provides clarity and resources to deliver high-quality, community-based baseball that reflects best practices and promotes long-term involvement in the sport.

Ultimately, Baseball New Zealand’s National Participation Framework is about building a strong foundation for the game, one that inspires lifelong participation, nurtures talent, and unites communities across New Zealand. By investing in structure today, we’re setting the stage for a brighter future for baseball tomorrow.
